I begin with an idea, shape, image, or a feeling. Sometimes a scribble or an intuition. It must be something that catches and holds my attention. I start the initial process which informs the choice of the final medium. In order to stay on the straight and narrow, I try and focus on the formal aspects of the work in hand. Colour, texture, form, process, technique, composition etc.
Throughout this process, the work hopefully begins to flow naturally and form itself. The work created joins and shapes one large, ever growing and evolving singular piece of work. This remains unfinished until the viewer comes into contact with the work – deciphering/interpreting, judging. Which in turn, adds to the creative act. What my work means, is for the viewer to decide – not myself.
