For many years I have been a conventional landscape photographer. But alongside traditional scenic shots I have always had an eye for detail and taken images of patterns and textures that have interested me. Up until recently I never really knew what to do with these ‘textural’ images and I didn’t even put them on my website. However, as part of a recent project photographing along Heswall shore, I wondered what would happen if I tried to combine images from both the traditional, wider view with those showing the almost hidden detail in the macro view. I carefully blended multiple images on my computer, giving different prominence to elements from each image – sometimes colours or the detail in shadows or highlights. The results are an intriguing form of abstract art that look their best when displayed as large format wall art.
