I am a watercolour artist working in Northern England and North Wales, painting landscapes and buildings in a loose style.

My artwork depicts scenes which are of specific interest to me, often because of their historic nature. I do a great deal of preparatory work on-site for each painting, visiting the location many times to make compositional sketches, tonal studies and colour notes. The final paintings are then executed in my studio, using large sheets of watercolour paper laid flat on a table. Washes are layered in a very loose style, which gives unpredictable and often spectacular results. These take a long time to dry, so working outdoors with them would be difficult.

Through my watercolour tuition, and as a result of my research for teaching, I try to implement new techniques and theories in my practice, whilst retaining a consistent ‘look’ to my paintings.
