I am best known for my hand painted silk scarves with their batik designs inspired by natural forms, or patterns created by Shibori techniques. Small pieces of my dyed silks and papers are recycled into textile art where I combine several techniques on fabric such as print, appliqué and free motion machine stitching.
I also enjoy painting with other mediums including oil and cold wax, pastel and watercolour. I sometimes start work without planning the direction it will take, but I mostly sketch outdoors and develop ideas back in the studio. I have a deep connection to the beauty of our local landscapes and aim to capture the essence of these places and how I feel about them. I like to focus on a theme such as Hilbre Island and experiment with media. Vibrancy and colour are important to me, both in my textile art and paintings.
