I began to explore the use of shapes and colour when training as a landscape designer 30 years ago. I was inspired by artists who played with the juxtaposition of shapes and colour from the early Russian avant garde artists through to Ben Nicholson and Kandinsky. I began art classes about 9 years ago and developed my own style which is largely abstract or semi abstract landscapes.
I have exhibited at Elevator Studios in Liverpool, Future Walls, Art after Dark, 471 Routes, The Hatch Gallery and Tate Aisle Gallery and in 2025 had a painting accepted in the Williamson Open exhibition.
My work is a conversation between myself and the viewer and by sharing my personal emotions and experiences, I create an open space for connection and reflection. I make my own collage papers and also use found papers, poetry and music scores, photos which I transfer on to layers of paint. I use these elements to build layers which I then sand back and scratch through to create textural interest.
