Fiona Philipps

My current practice is inspired by my everyday life. My daily walks beside the estuary inform my seascape and landscape paintings. Sometimes I take these observations one step further into abstraction.

I am also greatly inspired by my garden, home, and the plants, flowers and objects within them.

I interpret these subjects not only from observation but also my own emotional response. Some of the objects in my still life paintings and the landscape that surrounds me on my walks are very much interwoven with childhood memories and experiences.

I use acrylic paint and sometimes mixed media to build up layers which I scratch back to create texture and marks and reveal the history of my work below. In my mind this is almost a reflection of the never ending cycle of nature as we move from season to season. It helps me to document the ever changing landscape.
