Glass artist Helen Smith works primarily with kiln formed glass, using the material to explore the interplay of light, surface and texture.
Helen is currently applying traditional printmaking techniques to her work with glass powders to create unique surfaces, resulting in a series of atmospheric landscapes inspired by the wide horizon and beautiful light of the Dee estuary.
After a first career in IT during which she maintained a passion for art and textiles, Helen graduated in 2013 from Glyndwr University in Wrexham where she studied Applied Arts, specialising in glass. Her degree show work was selected for the annual exhibition of the Society of Designer Craftsmen at the Mall Galleries in London.
Having moved to a new studio a couple of years ago Helen is embracing the opportunities that working in a larger space affords her and is looking forward to welcoming visitors into her own studio once again this year. Come along and see how it’s done!
