Jacob Chan

My work is a combination of wheel thrown and figurative forms which take inspiration from my mixed Chinese and British heritage. Whilst my shapes and forms are heavily influenced by Chinese design and mythology, the British side is subtly hidden throughout the work with the use of natural materials such as sand, slate and broken pieces of pottery gathered from around the coastlines and mountain ranges of Britain. The majority of my work is soda fired in a hand-built gas kiln that uses techniques and processes which allow me to achieve colour and depth to the glazes on my work that would otherwise be unachievable in an electric kiln.
