I am a Botanical Illustrator. For me a walk is an exploration of discovery, finding treasures that many folks miss. Then I sit down to draw and record what I have found in coloured pencil. I love plants and Fungi and have always attempted to draw and paint them. The more I look, the more I see and understand.
Once back in my studio I use watercolour to explain the uniqueness of each plant. Sometimes I record a simple plant portrait. Other times I do a complex detailed study of the plant through its different stages during the year. I love intricate tangles of plant life, colours of flowers, enjoy strong vertical shapes and am influenced by Japanese design and the Glasgow Four. All of these affect the way that I compose my plant subjects.
