Botanical illustration is an exact form of art, seeking to accurately describe plants, so that they are identifiable from other similar plants. I love the technical nature of this style of painting, and using a tiny paintbrush gives me my mindful moments. Composition is important, to allow a plants’ individuality to be clearly seen. I work mostly in watercolour, sometimes as many as 10 layers of paint, to get depth of colour and shape. Black ink and crayons are part of my tool kit, as well as a magnifying glass, ruler, dividers and a decent pair of spectacles.
I have a broad selection of work, from small plant portraits to large technical studies, of flowers, trees, leaves and fungi.
