I am a professional artist and tutor working from my studio in a rural location in South Wirral.
Landscapes and coastal scenes being my primary subject matter, I am particularly inspired by the changing seasons and the effects of light creating mood and atmosphere. My initial ‘plein air’ sketches are in watercolour to create flowing washes and layers of transparent colour before developing the painting in the studio and experimenting with other materials such as acrylic, inks or mixed media.
The Wirral coastline is a constant source of inspiration and, further afield, the mountain ranges, lakes and waterfalls of Wales and the Lake District. Water is a prominent feature in many of my paintings and one of my favourite subjects is the coast of south west Cornwall with its rugged cliffs and foaming, turquoise sea.
Wildlife and nature are also a great source of inspiration and I can spend many hours studying the detail of creation.
