I am a visual artist, working currently with photography, I like my images to capture texture and detail whilst telling their story. I carefully light my scenes to not just be a record of what’s there, but to kindle feelings in the viewer. I hope when looking at the ‘portraits’ I’m currently working on viewers will perhaps see themselves, or someone they know, in the assemblage of objects and recall them with fondness. I’m influenced by the Dutch Masters’ paintings from the 17th Century, their ‘Vanitas’ were intended to remind the viewer that worldly pursuits were fleeting and that death was around the corner – a warning to not waste time on hobbies and to spend more time on more pious pursuits. I hope my work instead celebrates the small things that bring us joy, and revels in the mindful ‘time wasting’ activities.
