I am a visual artist; I paint, draw and sketch, observing from life or from my own photographs. Currently I am working on a series of portraits; I love painting people and animals, for the challenge of capturing likeness andessence of personality and character. I enjoy painting landscapes too and find inspiration from the natural world – woodland, flowers, seascapes, skies and clouds. Whatever the subject, I hope my paintings evoke a positive emotional reaction; a smile, recognition, uplift or cheer. Colour and light are important in creating this but I also use muted colours or monotone where appropriate to create the right mood. I have worked with watercolours and acrylics but now primarily choose oils, for their vibrant colour and rich texture but still like to use different mediums to express ideas in different ways.
I have studied art informally over many years, learning from other artists in local classes and online courses. I studied Fine Art (MOCN Diploma) at Wirral Met College.
