Training in Brighton at a time when art colleges disapproved of life drawing “why draw when you can take a photograph!” I became part of a group of guerrilla life drawers with a love of figure work which continues to this day.
Recently relocating to the Wirral, my work, be it painting, drawing or printmaking, primarily draws from the figure. A figure can be portrayed as a simple line drawing, a three-dimensional tonal drawing, or a full colour painting. My work explores this phenomenon taking sections of the pose which not only do I find most interesting, but which also express the mood and personality of the sitter. The peaceful atmosphere of working in silence explains the titles of the pictures.
