The main two series’ of work that I focus on are what I call ‘Mythic Spaces’ and ‘Sacred Groves’, which both take landscape as inspiration. There is an incongruity and a slight irony within some of the mixtures of imagery in these landscapes. In ‘Mythic Spaces’ I am looking at the mark-making and effects of media used just as much as taking inspiration from a dynamism experienced from the vertiginous viewpoints of mountainous landscapes. In the large watercolours on paper I ad-lib with photo reference and deliberate over a much longer time-scale, using ideas of ancient myth and wilderness as inspiration. There are other works on canvas that are inspired by strong light and colour.
