Susan Boardman

In 2022 I began to focus on ‘layers’ as an impetus for creative work, particularly the layers found in rock strata, cloud formations and landscape.

I use pre-loved fabrics to patch, piece and print backgrounds which I stitch by machine and/or hand to provide detail, texture and sparkle.  My final pieces are colourful and semi-abstract, giving a fresh look to familiar sights.

I usually follow a traditional design process in developing work with drawing underpinning everything I do.
Two factors influence what I make (1) the lack of space in my studio (2) my belief in recycling. For these reasons applique and collage techniques feature heavily in my art.
