I find significance, inspiration and joy in the everyday. In the summer of 2019 a blackbird made a nest in my tiny back garden. This arrival prompted ideas about safe places, homes and a sense of belonging.
Following a period of research I became fascinated with the variety of nests made by birds and animals and the environments they chose.
The constructed and embellished textiles that I produced used patched and pieced pre-loved fabrics related to that blackbirds arrival. Applique and collage feature heavily in my work and I’ve enjoyed using simple hand stitches on some pieces.
